The Best Hoodie for Your Body Type

Spring is the best, mostly because of all the great clothes you get to put on again. At the top of the list is the basic hooded sweatshirt (a.k.a. the hoodie). In the recent past this hardworking sartorial gem was strictly casual. But now we see them all over runways, under suits, and on some of the most fashionable men in the universe. So what's the trick to wearing a hoodie outside of your apartment or the gym? Get one that's made of really high quality fabric and with a slim structured fit—so you can wear it under your leather jacket. Check out the best one for your shape below.

If you’re usually the tallest guy in the room…

No man looks good in a cropped sweatshirt, especially not if he's 6 foot 4. Because most hoodies are made of cotton, they're liable to shrink. Ask the salesperson if it's pre-shrunk (pre-washed), if not buy the next size up.

If you’re a few inches under 5’8…

It may look cool at Kanye West's Yeezy Season 2 presentation, but shorter guys should not attempt the oversized look. Instead, make sure the hoodie you buy springs no lower than just past your belt. Same goes for the sleeves which should never hang down past your fingers.

If you’re pretty normal but have some muscles…

Avoid looking like Rocky in his workout sweats. Yours should be less fitted and less sweaty, so get one for working out and another one for wearing out. That way your nice one won't get all smelly and stretched out.

If you’re on the heavier side…

Be careful that your hoodie isn't inadvertently spotlighting your belly. The kangaroo pocket literally refers to the pouch on a female kangaroo where her newborn baby incubates. So watch out for the placement of that pocket. This one from Levi's Vintage has two separate pockets to help avoid such a problem.
